Battle Wine Estate Battle Wine Estate is located at Leeford Vineyards, not much further than an arrow's flight from the historic town of Battle, in Sussex. The New Zealand trained winemaker produces a stunning range of both red and white wines. This includes the "Saxon" range, available nationwide, and the "Reserve" range. The vineyard is now only open to visitors by appointment. Return to vineyards index Cave Vineyards (Private/Non-commercial) (CAVE = Claydon Association of Vineyard Eccentrics) In 1997 twenty six families cleared some abandoned allotments on the edge of Botolph Claydon and planted 200 vines of Rondo and Seyval Blanc. A small trial was carried out in 1999 by allowing selected vines to fruit and making our own wine under cottage industry conditions. The white wine was crisp with a hint of Lavender. The Rondo (which is a cross of Pinot noir and St. Laurent) produced a really deep red wine. This was most members' favourite. Whilst both wines were "very drinkable" it was decided that our wines would benefit from processing by a specialist winery. Our first full harvest in October 2000 reflected a poor summer and the effects of Powdery Mildew, particularly on the Rondo. Nevertheless we are expecting around 300 bottles and, in view of the minimum quantity required by the winery for pressing, we have decided to blend our grapes to produce a rosé. Tasting and distribution of the yield will take place in the summer, probably at our annual Vineyard Picnic.
